Scientists from Flamingo Land Resort are conserving species in Africa, that visitors and schools can learn about at the visitor attraction near to York.

Flamingo Land Resort’s award-winning field conservation project in Tanzania is aiming to conserve tropical forests in partnership with Tanzanian villages and park managers. The zoo at Flamingo Land also houses over 130 species of animal, bringing this field conservation work to life for over one million visitors, and over one thousand schools each year.

The image represented here is the Udzungwa red colobus monkey, which is found in the region of Tanzania where Flamingo Land Resort are working to conserve tropical forests through the Udzungwa Forest Project. At the Flamingo Land site 26 miles north of York, visitors can learn about this conservation work as well as the broader conservation work of British and European zoos. Flamingo Land also welcomes school groups, which can take part in an award-winning national curriculum based education program, including hands-on experience with various animals. Flamingo Land’s increasingly popular week-long Zoo Academies also take 7 to 11 year-olds behind the scenes to learn about animals and protecting the environment. “Big kids” can also get behind the scenes at team-building and corporate days with a difference.
