York Science & Innovation Grand Tour May - Sept 2012

Sponsored by Aviva

A visual celebration of York’s phenomenal achievements in science and innovation.

York has made huge contributions across all areas of science and innovation from astronomy and the science of flight to geology and, more recently, biology and information technology.

Throughout the summer of 2012 visitors to York embraced an amazing tour and discovered how some of the city’s innovative people, businesses and organisations have impacted on our lives.

60 large-scale, science and innovation themed, images and messages were displayed in prime locations around the city from 30 May to 31 August 2012.

York has a remarkable strength and reputation in science, technology and innovation, continually transforming the economy in and around York for centuries.

Now a leading international centre for science and technology, with more than 500 technology companies in and around the city, we are proud of our many global and ground-breaking achievements!

Catering for all levels of interest and knowledge, each image had a QR code which could be scanned by mobile devices, and those with smartphones were able to find out more about the image, the story and the great people responsible for it.

As well as a comprehensive printed Tour Guide, available from York Visitor Information Centre, an exclusive mobile App was available to download, providing a personal guide for the Grand Tour.

Visitors were able to get involved and tell us their favourite exhibit on Twitter using the exhibit’s unique hashtag, join our Facebook page or upload photos via Flickr..
